SYC Swim & Prep Team 2026 - Week 4

Good evening!

Please read this weekly update for important information for the 2026 summer swim season. As a reminder, we will not have practice this Friday (July 3rd). Practice will run as usual Monday-Thursday this week. We wish you and your families a wonderful holiday weekend!

SWIM TEAM MEETS

Congrats to our swimmers who participated in the Poco dual meet and the Pete Johnston Memorial Swim Meet on Saturday! Coach Sophie emailed Poco results already, and the PJ meet results are attached to this email.

We had a lot of great swims from all age groups, but we had a much smaller showing than several of the other teams. SYC placed 8th overall. The meet is set up in a unique way, using odd age groups and featuring various mixed relays, as well as a crescendo relay with five swimmers (one from each age group). The coaches are so proud of the swimmers who were present, and especially those who were willing to sub in for our no-show and scratched swimmers. Special shout out to our very own Elena Arambula (12-13 year old girls) for winning the high point award for her age group!

A big thank you to all of our coaches who helped and supported our swimmers. Their energy and encouragement helped keep our swimmers going during this long meet.

Please ask your swimmer(s) to check the folders at the front desk for their ribbons if they swam at the recent Poco or PJ meets.

As a reminder, please RSVP for all remaining swim meets. If your plans change, please update your RSVPs prior to entries closing because last minute scratches affect not only your individual swimmer, but they affect relays, as well. Communication is key for our team and coaches! Remember, your swimmer must swim in at least two meets to qualify to swim at City. We have three big team meets left in July to qualify for City participation (July 9th, July 16th, and July 21st).

PREP TEAM MEETS

The first prep team meet on June 24th went so well! We are incredibly proud of our prep team members, as well as our coaches who helped our youngest swimmers experience a developmental meet. Our next prep meet is on July 8th.

SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK

This week we’re proud to recognize Hudson Hernandez, Bridget McCarter, Sofia Przybylski, Dylan Berg, Lilly Exner, and Lucas Grizzle for their hard work, dedication, and positive attitudes! They have all shown great improvement in practice and meets. Whether it’s mastering a new stroke technique, beating a personal best, or supporting teammates, these swimmers exemplify the true spirit of our team. Keep up the good work! #GoSYC

SPIRIT WEAR

We have just a few of our red SYC duck trucker hats still available. If you would like to order a hat for $20, please respond to this email or ask a board member at practice.

VOLUNTEERS

We would like to say a big thank you to our parents and board members who volunteered their time at the PJ meet on Saturday. There were a lot of details to keep track of and everyone worked as a team. A few of our parents/family members took on extra long shifts because we were short on volunteers. We appreciate you recognizing the need and being willing to step up and help out our team in a big way!

As you know, there are volunteer opportunities at each of our swim meets - home and away! Swim meets cannot happen without the help of our families. Please visit our website to sign up: https://sycaquatics.swimtopia.com/swim_meets If you were not able to attend the parent meeting in May, you may find our website "how-to" videos helpful! https://sycaquatics.swimtopia.com/how-to-videos

CITY SWIM MEET

If you haven’t already, please RSVP for the City Swim Meet right away! We are really hoping for a great SYC turnout this year. The City Swim Meet results from the prior year determine how the teams are split into leagues for the next summer (it is not based on team size, contrary to popular belief). We would love to have a City Swim Meet commitment from as many of our swimmers as possible! The City Swim Meet is fun, exciting, and gives your swimmers a chance to show off how hard they’ve been working all summer long!

2026 City Swim Meet Apparel:

Please note, this is a very quick turnaround for apparel orders so that they can be delivered to all teams before the meet. Please visit this link to place your orders by July 8th at 11:59pm: https://cityswim26.itemorder.com/shop/product/59640539/
