SYC 2024 - Week 7
Good evening!
Welcome to week 7 of our summer swim season! The board has some important reminders for the upcoming week.
GENERAL
As a reminder, if your family's schedule changes, please make updates to your RSVPs one week in advance of our swim meets. If you have not yet RSVPd for the City Swim Meet, please do so ASAP so our coaches can make plans for individual and relay events.
VOLUNTEERS
Thank you to those of you who have already signed up for volunteer jobs on our website! There are still a couple of volunteer opportunities open for our last regular season meet this Tuesday, July 16th! Please visit our website to sign up: https://sycaquatics.
The city dive and city swim meet concession volunteer slots are live on our website: https://sycaquatics.
As a reminder, Sycamore is responsible for all aspects of the concession stand for both weekends this year and we need your help! This responsibility rotates through each FWSSDL team in alphabetical order, so we will not have this fundraising opportunity for several more years. We need to fill all volunteer spots and we still have a lot of open positions available. *If volunteering during a session that your child is swimming in, you are absolutely able to step out to cheer on your swimmer!*

SWIM MEETS
SYC @ Glen Aqua (re-cap) - Despite the rainy weather, Sycamore had a great away meet at Glen Aqua last Thursday. Meet results are attached to this email.
Home PREP Meet (upcoming/rescheduled) - SYC vs Autumn Ridge @ 10:00am
We hope to have as many prep swimmers swimming as possible tomorrow morning! The prep meet will last approximately one hour. All big team groups (black, white, and red) will practice as usual.
HOME Swim Meet (upcoming) - Blackhawk on July 16th
We have a home swim meet vs. Blackhawk this coming Tuesday. As a reminder, all home meets begin at 6:00pm. Swimmers need to arrive at 4:45pm for warm-ups. You will be notified which events your child is swimming in prior to the meet. Please write their events on their arm before they come to the pool on Tuesday evening. If your swimmer needs help with this, please let a coach know when you arrive for warm-ups.
CITY PREP MEET (upcoming) Wednesday, July 17th at Pocahontas -This is an invitation-only meet for coach-selected prep swimmers. Parents have been notified if your swimmer has been selected to participate. The meet will start at 9:00am, with the opening ceremonies starting at 8:45am. Please have your swimmers arrive by 8:30am in order to line up for the opening ceremonies. We hope to finish the meet by 11:30am.The theme for this year’s event is “The Road to the Olympics.” Your swimmer can come dressed for Team USA or as their favorite olympian.
MOVIE NIGHT AT THE POOL
This Thursday, July 18th from 6-8pm is our movie night at the Sycamore pool. All SYC swimmers and families are welcome! Please see the email invitation for more information.
SPIRIT WEEK
Spirit week (July 22nd-26th) is the week leading up to the City Swim Meet. It is a wonderful week of fun and exciting events that help close out our summer swim season. Our spirit week committee has worked hard to plan some fun daily crafts and activities. Below is the list of daily themes/events:
Monday, 7/22 - Patriotic day
Tuesday, 7/23 - Anything but a swim cap day
Wednesday, 7/24 - Dress like your coach day *Our 2024 banquet will be held on Wednesday, July 24th from 6-8:30pm. More information to come!
Thursday, 7/25 - Inside out day
Friday, 7/26 - Hawaiian day *This year we have decided to host our traditional pancake breakfast on Friday morning at the pool (instead of Sunday morning before finals). We will also be decorating vehicles for the City Swim Meet during this time. We hope you can join us!
CITY MEET INFORMATION
The city swim meet is right around the corner! Please see below for more information.
Pre-sale Weekend Pass:
Swim families can purchase a weekend wristband pass for $10 per adult. This pass will get one person into all sessions of the 2024 Fort Wayne City Swim Meet at Helen P. Brown Natatorium. This pass is only available by pre-sale and will not be available to purchase at the meet. Families who choose not to order weekend passes can still pay at
the door. The price is $5 per session, and children 18 and under are free. If you are interested in purchasing a pass, please see a Board member at swim practice or a swim meet by FRIDAY, JULY 19th. Please fill out the attached order form and include cash or check (made out to Sycamore Hills Swim & Dive Team).
Schedule
Preliminaries: Friday - Ages 8 and under
4:40pm meet start time
Doors open at 3:00pm for spectators
Coaches and swimmers allowed on deck at 3:15pm
Preliminaries: Saturday - Ages 11 & 12 and 15 and over
8:20am meet start time
Doors open at 6:45am for spectators
Coaches and swimmers allowed on deck at 7:00am
Preliminaries: Saturday afternoon - Ages 9 & 10 and 13 & 14
The start time is 1 hour and 10 minutes after warm-ups start (dependent on morning session end time).
Sunday Finals: will not start before 1:00pm
Doors will open at 10:30 am
Parade will begin at 11:20am
Swimmers and coaches are allowed on deck following the parade.
